Castle in Soave, Italy
Soave is a light white wine from the Tre Venezie region of northern Italy. Soave is heavily exported. Be careful, the quality varies measurably, many Soaves are bland, some are fruity. Suggested food pairings include Bass, Fried Fish, Boiled Shrimp, Camembert Cheese, and Greek Salad.
Soave starts at under $10. Be careful, a lot of Soaves are not very good. One producer to look for is Anselmi which produces a good Soave under the name Capitel Croce for about $13 that tastes of citrus fruit, pear, grapefruit, and a touch of hazelnut. Another good choice is the Guerrieri Rizzardi Soave Classico for about $16 that tastes of peaches and light tropical fruit with an acidic finish. You can age this wine for about two years. Another wine in this price range is the freshly acidic Suavia Soave Classico with minerals, lemon flower, white peach and a touch of ginger.
