Opus One, One Upscale Wine

Opus One fine wine red wine list

Opus One, is it really worth the price?

Opus One
Opus One is a top of the line Napa Valley, California red wine whose major component is the Cabernet Sauvignon variety. Opus One is a prime example of a Meritage wine, a Bordeaux blend produced in California. The winery was a joint venture of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, proprietor of Château Mouton-Rothschild in Bordeaux, and Napa Valley's winemaker Robert Mondavi at a cost of $29 million. Those who are lucky enough to have enjoyed Opus One over the years may tell you that the taste differs from vintage to vintage. Precious few can identify the vintage in a blind tasting. Suggested food pairings include Strip Loin Steak and Baby Rack of Lamb Chops.

Orvieto
Orvieto is a crisp, usually dry white wine from the Umbria region of central Italy. Suggested food pairings include Boiled Shrimp. See A Wine Lover's Weekly Review Of $10 Wines - A White Orvieto From Central Italy for a review of such a wine.
