An extra brut champagne bottle

Would a wine lover ever put sugar in an extra brut champagne to sweeten it up? Perish the thought.

Earthy
In its positive sense an earthy wine invokes the smell of fresh, clean soil. In its negative sense an earthy wine refers to dirty flavors. Sometimes it refers to the taste of wine made from young grapevines growing on land previously planted with vegetables that left their mark on the soil.

Easy
An easy wine doesn’t require any concentration or expertise, it simply tastes good.
Effervescence
This is the presence of carbon dioxide whether natural or added in the wine.
Elegant
Graceful, light, well-balanced wines are often called elegant.
Elevage
Elevage is the process of
aging a wine in wood that hopefully improves it.
Enrichment
Enrichment is the adding of
sugar to the must to increase the ensuing alcohol content.
Essence
Essence may signify odor kits containing vials of representative flavor essence. An essence may also be a late harvest, sweet red wine, particularly Zinfandels.
Ethereal
An ethereal wine has an intense odor reminding one of paint solvents.
Eucalyptus
A eucalyptus odor reminds one of an eucalyptus (evergreen) tree. Common examples include California Cabernet Sauvignons and Pinot Noirs.
Evanescent
An evanescent wine lacks intensity and persistence.
Expressive
An expressive wine expresses its grape variety and the location where it was grown.
Extract
This term refers to the wine’s color coming from the grape skins during
fermentation or subsequent maceration in which the grape skins steep in the fermented juice usually producing a deep colored wine with pronounced flavors and tannins.
Extra brut
Extra Brut refers to bone dry Champagnes containing 0 to 0.25 ounces of sugar per quart/ 0 to 6 grams of sugar per liter.
Extra dry
Extra dry refers to a Champagne whose sugar content exceeds a brut, but is less than a demi-sec. The
residual sugar content is between 1.5% and 4%.
Exuberant
An exuberant wine is full of fruit and life in general.
