The state of Hawaii's first vines were planted about two hundred years ago. The soil is volcanic, which can make for some fine grapes, but I don't have to tell you that the climate leaves something to be desired, grape wise. Presently all (grape) wine is made from the local Symphony, a cross between Muscat of Alexandria and Grenache Gris.
